STUDYING ABROAD

In this video there are 3 interviews of 3 different international students studying in the United States. They all come from completely different parts of the world and as a result they have almost nothing in common.Their nationalities, cultures and also their economical conditions in their countries are dissimilar. But they have one thing in common. They are all international students studying at the same university-Ohio North University(UNO)-in the United States.Throughout the whole video we can see different aspects of being an international student, divided into 8 main topics.Students in the video make their own comments on these. For instance our first topic is about the benefits of studying in the USA.According to the students, these benefits could be the opportunities the universities in the US offer,or at least Ohio North University offers,to practise freely.Or the different educational system based on creativity could be one good benefit.Apart from these, the preferrable environment, which really means a lot to them as they can´t have it in their own countries,is also an undeniably good advantage of studying in the US.Their reasons for coming to America for their education were the effect of exchanging programmes, the encourage of their relatives like their grandfather etc. or a friend´s advice who graduated from UNO.Our third topic was about the differences these students observed between their own countries and the USA.While they can´t change what they have chosen as their major in their own countries due to the strict attitute of theirs, the American education system is more tolerable about this situation. In other countries they just give you your books and your plannings. But the American one is flexible and you can do much more besides your studies.Their answers to what they like most about their University were quietness, which is an advantage of living in a small town. That means they like the life there.Or the small sizes of the classes which make it easier to communicate with faculty members who are according to them very supportive,is also one good thing. Then our students were asked about the cost of studying abroad.Their anwers were quite different because the cost depends on your department you study. It can be 20,079$ or 34.000$ including all expenses like room, paper and fees. What their biggest benefit of studying in the US was,is our sixth topic.Their answers to this were getting to know American culture better. For instance Americans use dry machines whereas people from China dry clothes outside.Or American people are outgoing and they just say what they are thinking. But Japanese people use indirect communication. They try to guess other people`s minds.Aside from these the girl from Netherlands mentioned she created a new goal since coming to America. She gained a lot of priceless experiences as a result of college and people around.Did they experience any culture shock?Their answer was "yes".For example,American people wear t-shirts in winter. They like coffee a lot ,or they do not get embarressed about the things about which other cultures do.And here comes another question: Do they plan to stay in the US after their education at ONU? Their answers vary. One wants to stay in th US for one or two years to get an internship.Another wants in America, too.Otherwise he can lose his English skills. He says he has already got troubles speaking English everywhere although he is residing in America. And if he were in his own country he couldn`t imagine how fast he would lose them. The other considers about staying in America. But if she doesn`t she will travel the world:)
